methodology of the dissertation

Let’s have a look at some of the key factors that you should keep in mind for writing a research statement.

A good research statement must follow the below mentioned guidelines:

  • Make sure that the research statement is not more than 2 to 3 pages long and there are no long or wordy paragraphs.
  • Make sure that you use bullets and headings to keep the document easily readable.
  • Make sure that the structure of your research statement is concise with no abbreviations or jargons are used that will be difficult for your readers to understand.
  • Make sure that your research statement is objective and unbiased and reflects opinions backed with concrete and valid references.

Key ingredients for a Good Research:

  • Overview:
This is where you give a brief introduction regarding the theme of the research that you have conducted previously which you are now trying to take a step forward. Here, you can include the background and objectives of your investigative study and explain how it will be relevant to the target audience.
  • Previous Research And Their Findings:
This is where you give a brief description of your previous research. Take a few paragraphs and explain the objectives and results of your previous research. Also include the data collection method, sample size, analysis method that you had used previously for the investigative process.
  • Goals for the future:
This is where you will state the long term and short term goals of your research with a specific but not necessarily detailed agenda for the future investigative process. Since this acts like a proposal for the future research you can also add the methods that you will be adopting for the analysis of the data and the assumed outcome.
A good research statement answers to the following questions:
  • What were your accomplishments in the previous research? (here, you can also include a brief summary of the results)
  • Why is your research so important? (keep your target audience in mind and then explain how your research was beneficial to them)
  • What are your goals for the future? (mention an agenda for at least 2 to 3 years)

In conclusion, make sure that you include all the relevant and positive information of your current and previous researches so that your readers can get a complete view of both the reports.
